Our first adventure, on our own again

Well that saturday when we got home after the wedding we realized it was cold. It had snowed all day that day and it was pretty chilly so we called the gas company who were closed believe it or not. We were very frustrated that the first real day we were in the house we had no heat and no hot water. This caused major issues. Ethan had to have cold bottles since we didnt have our microwave back yet and we couldt wash our clothes that seemed were all dirty and we all froze and we had no showers, all weekend. Very not fun. It was crazy that a main utility company would be closed on the weekend. We tried their toll free 24 hour help line and the lady was completely clueless. We asked her if we could turn it on ourselves and just be charged for the extra day since it wasnt the first yet and she said that there was a fee for that. We asked how much thinking we would just pay it and she wouldnt tell us. So we asked for a supervisor. She told us she has no supervisor, no boss and no way to take a complaint. We were very annoyed at this lady. So we ended up with no gas for the next 2 days. We had to skip church since we couldnt take showers and ended up just cleaning all day sunday which kept us warm and I bundled up the kids pretty good so they didnt freeze. On monday we had to drive to Sandy in order to get ready for the day. Mike was able to get a shower in right before work and then I was able to get ready for the day and feel clean again, then Mike called the gas company again and they said that they couldnt get anyone out there till the next night, so again we asked if we could just do it ourselves and they told us that it would only be a five dollar charge! WHAT! Are you kidding. We could have had heat all weekend for five dollars. I was so annoyed. So that night after Mike got off work he cut the zip tie and we turned our gas on ourselves so we could shower at home this time. Its amazing how awesome hot water is when you havent had it in a couple days. So with that we were finally in a home with all the utilities working right. What a mess but like my mom said, It is pretty funny now that we are not in the situation anymore. :)

That sounds awful, no heat or hot water and having a family to take care of. Good work Dez, sounds like you guys survived.
